ID – 01. FUNDAMENTALS OF DESIGN

Basics Design provides the framework for understanding design as a new language by sensitizing students to the conceptual, visual and perceptual issues involved in the design process.

The Course provides with knowledge of the principles of design and design elements. Exercises complement the lecturers and ensure that the students learn to develop a series of compositions in two and three dimension. The Course also prepares ground for the students to gain an understanding into the fundamental issues in architectural design and develop the skill to create architectural solutions for simple problems.

ID-06. INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO-I(Residence Project)

The Interior Design Studio must reflect the input from all the other subjects.
Two interior schemes of different functional types: Residential projects at different scales will from the major design assignment.
One time problem to be included.

ID-07.INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO-II
(OFFICE, RESTAURANT& SHOWROOM)

The Design exercise should reflect the inputs from other subjects. The design process involve literature studies, case studies, data collections and analysis eventually resulting in a interior schema where theme based design is emphasized. Two Interior schemes of different functional types viz., Retail and Commercial environments such as Boutique, Restaurants, Office spaces, Retail outlets etc. Design portfolio should include furniture layout, electrical layout, false ceiling plan, partition designs & details, flooring plan, design of door &windows color schemes etc, specifying materials usage and the related technical knowledge.

ID-08.FURNITURE & ACCESSORIES DESIGN

The course aimed to impart understanding of formal and functional issues in Furniture and accessories constituting an interior environment. Furniture categories: Seating, table & desks, showcases, storage,

Shopping windows, modular furniture system, modular furniture

Furniture covering & upholstery. Built in furniture-seating, shelves, closets, planters, divider etc. Brief account of the evolution of furniture. ID-09.PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE & MANAGEMENT

Issues in interior Design Profession: Nature of work; Constraints; Best-practices:

Role of a interiors designer as a professional. Types of practice: Private practice; Freelancing; Partnership; Associate ships etc.,

Types of offices for architectural. Practice: staff structure; filing of records, correspondence and drawings; maintenance of accounts:

ID-10.DISSERTATION

Interior Design Dissertation project is intended to develop research and report writing skills.

The student is expected to select a design oriented topic of his/her choice and pursue the breadth and depths of the chosen topic submit a dissertation report as a final product which includes literature and case study. The study shall address to academic and professional interests of field.

The student is expected to submit a proposal for a project of his choice for approval, to the project coordinator, The proposal must clearly indicate the scope of work, Methodology, objectives and spectrum of studies to validate the interference. Evaluation shall be on the basis of a Presentation and Viva-Voce.

ID-11.PRACTICAL TRAINING

Every student must work in an Interior Designer’s/Architect office as a full-time trainee for a period of two months (excluding Viva-voce) from the date of commencement of training the Chief consultant in the firm should be registered with the Council of Architecture and have a minimum of five years of practical/professional experience after her/his graduation the student should involve herself/himself in various aspects of work in an office like working drawings, presentation drawings, quantity estimating, site supervision etc.

After completion of training every student will have to submit a detailed report with a set of drawings on at least one project on which she/he has worked during of the tenure of the practical training period. This report will be evaluated at a viva-voce by a jury. After submission of the report the department at its convenience will arrange for the conduct of the viva-voce examination.
