Airlines are flying regional and international. The number of flyers is increasing tremendously and so is the need for staff on the aeroplane. The staff on the plane is called the cabin crew who follows the instructions given by the pilot and co-pilots outside the cockpit. They are hired and given an internal training of 3 to 6 weeks before actually flying. They have the huge responsibility of making sure of the safety and comfort of the passengers. The cabin crew consists of both males and females.
The ladies on the plane are called hostesses and the male flight attendants are called hosts. They are selected per the rules laid down by DGCA and aviation organizations. The crew has to be present in the airline uniform at all times during flying hours. They are in charge of the whole plane area i.e. from the cockpit door to the rear kitchen area. They are not responsible for anything outside the aircraft and inside the cockpit. They are trained to handle emergencies and normal ones. They have to close the door of the aircraft once all the passengers have boarded the aircraft. They guide all the passengers on board on what to do in case of any emergency takes place. They even provide special instructions to the passenger sticking next to the emergency exit. Host and hostesses have to provide necessary information about their travel and of any turbulence taking place during the journey.
They also give special assistance to the ones travelling with infants and toddlers. The crew is hired depending on the flight region. If it is an international flight then the crew is expected to be familiar with the foreign language to assist people on board. The FAA requires flight attendants to be of at least 18 years before working as a crew. The cabin crew has to be hospitable to the passengers otherwise it can hamper the goodwill of the airline.
